Groups can arrange days of Canoeing, kayaking,
sailing, & other watersports such as windsurfing
and water skiing with Peak Activities Ltd.

Our canoeing and kayaking and other watersports have been
featured on BBC1's Breakaway Programme & BBC2's
TV sports and holiday programmes !
Prices of watersports sessions start from as little as £100 per person per day.
We normally suggest it is best to book at least a half day or a full day at a
time as part of longer events with us. Call us to discuus further.
We also offer Sailing activities for sensible
hen groups & stag groups, social clubs and
sports clubs.
Watersports are great as part of team building events
and team bonding programmes...and can be incorporated
into some more serious tailored staff development and
training courses to improve communications and develop
greater trust.

Folks of all ages and fitnesses who are coming to stay with us
for a few days like to enjoy gentle flat water canoeing, sailing,
windsurfing, kayaking, waterskiing & improvised raft racing at
our watersports facility. This is just a short (35/45 mins)
minibus drive from our base ROCK LEA in Hathersage.
You don't need to be able to swim to
enjoy canoeing with Peak Activities,
but do expect to get quite wet !

If you're looking for something different
we can arrange jolly inter-team canoe races
and other competitions - such as canoe
based treasure hunts with prizes such as
Swiss chocolates & champagne for the people
who win this light-hearted team challenge.
All our activities are fully insured.

we also can offer you some improvised
raft building and racing.
You don't need to be an Olympic athlete to enjoy messing
about in canoes or dinghies and have lots of fun with your pals !
Our top quality fun days out at our watersports centre are
especially popular with office "away day" groups, with hen parties,
stag groups and friends' and family reunion parties. You can set
your own pace & pack in as much or as little activities as you like !

Our flat water watersports facility is a BCU and RYA approved teaching centre.
Here we can offer first class equipment and excellent instruction and v. good rescue boat
cover. The flat water here is safe and is very clean and regularly tested to check for quality
and safety. Lots of other water sports venues can suffer from algae and other problems
such as water born bugs such as Weil's disease...so it's to know the water is safe to slop
around in here !
Our kit and facilities may not be as cheap as some other firms to hire, but we'll not let
you down and you'll be pleased with the reliability and overall quality of what we can
offer you. As we often say on this website - not all outdoor pursuits providers are the
same ! You often tend to get what you pay for.

We have a choice of canoes available including single and double canoes and kayaks.
Wet suits are provided whenever the water's cold ! No special level of fitness is needed.
No prior experience or fitness is required. Swimming ability helps but is not essential.
Life jackets and buoyancy aids are provided and must be worn at all times when on or
next to the water. Non-swimmers can take part but they need to don a life jacket rather
than a buoyancy aid.
Canoe-based photographic treasure hunts around the lake were very popular last year
for groups wanting team building and out of doors problem solving tasks. We are introducing
two new canoe treasure hunts for this year including a canoe and rowing boat based
treasure hunt for pirates ! Everyone needs to bring along trainers they won't mind
getting wet - and plenty of spare clothing & towels. Eye patches, jolly roger flags and
pirate swords and pistols and parrots on the shoulder are optional extras !

Our tutors are friendly and patient and non-machismo.
If you're a group organiser, we can include canoeing and
sailing and other watersports such as raft building and
racing into a tailored programme designed just for you !
There are exciting incentives on offer for group leaders.
The watersports facility has good hot showers and changing
rooms, and there is a cafe on the site too. Sessions here last
approx 90 minutes per activity with approx. 30 minutes break
between sessions. A good day out here would have three or four
watersports activity sessons. Watersports are best booked for
the whole day.
Canoeing can take place all year round, but on really very windy
or cold days in winter you might be wise deciding to go sailing or
do something like a nice warm caving trip instead. You will definitely
get wet canoeing unless you are very skilled or very lucky !
If your group is greater than 10 people we'll usually split
up the party into working groups for canoeing...with the
other parts of your party doing other activities on a round
robin basis.

n.b. We regret we cannot help people requiring white water rafting and white water canoeing in the Peak District.
There is little or no navigable water we know of near Hathersage itself. Matlock is probably the nearest spot for
decent river kayaking and canoeing. We regret we are not able to canoe on local reservoirs or rivers ..nor can we
give out advice to other outdoor instructors or clubs on where to canoe on local rivers. Please contact the BCU
( the British Canoe Union ) for more information on local access to rivers.
