our copyright materials such as photographic images of our abseiling activities to support good
causes. However, our material is copyright and is should not be assumed that we will always grant
a licence to reproduce materials. text, copy etc. free of charge.

Last year a firm was forced to make a substantial ( five figure ) out of court settlement payment
to Peak Activities Ltd for stealing our intellectual property in the shape of meta files, html code
and copyright text and other intellectual property taken from our copyright web sites. Another
Peak District company was severely fined for publishing some of our imagery without our written
permission. Be warned that Peak Activities Ltd's solicitors will press for damages and take legal
action without any further warning if any person/s or their agents "borrow" our copyright materials
including meta files, text or images from this website for commercial gain. We are especially
concerned that commercial companies running charity events for their own commercial gain have
been using material from this website recently....which is really flattering but totally illegal.

Case study 1 : PEAK ACTIVITIES SELECTED TO SUPPLY A SAFE, FUN FILLED CHARITY FUNDRAISING ABSEILING EVENT FOR ONE OF THE UK's LEADING SAFETY COMPANIES... aDebbie Warner - area sales representative for Progressive Safety Ltd ( SHeffield ) raising money for the Master Cutler's Challenge......Debbie helps one of her colleagues release from the ropes at the end of another successful sponsored abseil. NEW FOR THIS YEAR ! CHARITY ABSEILS & CHARITY FUND RAISING USING OUR TEAM CHALLENGES OVER IN THE ALPS ... Raise £50,000+ with us over four days in the Alps ! You don't have to walk barefoot over broken glass to raise money for charity these days ! It is possible to indulge yourself and raise money for charity at the same time. A great ossibility for this year is to take your charity event abroad - to our base in Austria ! Ellmau village in Summer We can offer Carbon-Neutral flights over to Salzburg from many airports in the UK and you can combine a thrilling and relaxing break in the Alps with raising funds for your next corporate charity ! Summer is the low cost time to visit places like the Tyrol for activities such as orienteering, glacier walks, klettersteig scrambles, mountain bike treasure hunts and trailquests. Try white water rafting too ! If you're thinking big and you want to raise, say, in excess of £50,000 you'll need a basic investment of around £550 each for a party of around 12 people over 4 days....and we would expect your group to raise at least five times more than that in sponsorship for your registered charity to justify this sort of investment. We have already planned several events in the Alps designed as fund raising team building events for young graduates and apprentices. Sesselbahn chairlift above our base in the village of Ellmau in the WIlderkaisergebirge. We regret we cannot afford to work for free for charities ( our staff and insurance companies still need paying and our vehicles still need fuel in them even when we're helping to support charities ). However, we can offer free consultancy time & reduced hourly rates for registered charities who are well organised and who are willing to book their events with us well in advance.

awarding prizes for Peak Activities Ltd to one
of the winning teams at Chatsworth House at
the end of a two day inter-company, inter-team
challenge event organised and sponsored by
Dr. Iain Jennings of Peak Activities Ltd and
sponsored by Alan Gruar MBE of Lucas Aerospace.

This prestigious event raised tens of thousands of
pounds in a single weekend for the Imperial Cancer
Research Fund and provided that charity's professional
fund raising with unique access to key execs. and
decision makers from the firms such as Bosch and
Kleinwort Benson, EMI and Lucas.

This very successful multi-corporate event took our
Director Dr. Iain Jennings and his assistant Claire
Lilley over 6 months of intensive work and networking
to organise...but everyone involved agreed it was lots
of fun and well worth it.

Often we are requested to staff and manage safety and insure tailor made challenges and sponsored events requiring technical support and specialist insurance cover ...such as charity abseils and charity team challenges to support good causes and registered charities such as the BBC Children In Need appeal. For such good causes Peak Activities Ltd can offer specialist insurance and fully qualified, friendly staff to run your event at reduced rates. HEY ! GUESS WHAT I DID OVER THE WEEKEND ! Pudsey Bear is one of our sponsored abseil recipients ! Back in November we organised a sponsored abseil for a small group including a Peak Park Ranger and National Park staff based in nearby Bakewell. The proceeds were sent off to Pudsey Bear's popular BBC Children in Need Charity and a great morning of fun and frolics in the crisp fresh air & sunshine was enjoyed by all concerned.
Frequently asked questions about charity abseils in the UK... Q : Who collects & handles the money for charity and how much should we be aiming to raise ? Answer : We've operated for many years using a simple system where clients just pay us a pre-arranged fee for our staff time, minibus fuel, £5 million insurance cover etc. VAT is charged at 17.5% on top. We do not handle the money being raised for the charity - so there is complete clarity in terms of how much the event costs and how much is being raised and passed on to the charity involved. Because we're not running charity events for profit we will seek some initial assurances that at east FIVE TIMES our fee will be generated by any specific charity fund raising event. We see no point in you spending £100 with us just to raise a surplus of £5 ! Our social conscience is happier taking £100 off you to help you raise another £500 or more ! More importantly we believe the Charity Commissioners approve of such investment : return gearing ratios. Q : Is it 100% safe abseiling for charity ? Answer : It is true that there have been accidents elsewhere during charity abseiling events. Indeed some badly organised or badly run events involving other "abseiing instructors" ( not alway qualified or who have failed to carry out proper risk assessments ) have resulted in some tragic consequences. Working as safety consultants some of our senior staff who have been asked to work as expert witnesses supporting prosecutions and litigations in court are, sadly, all too privvy to the details of such incidents elsewhere. Not all providers work to the same safety standards.

One of our senior staff with over 25 years
experience working with Peak Activities Ltd,
is Steve Pope. Steve was formerly a Government
Health & Safety Inspector and Mines Inspector
who now runs Safety Management Limited - a
safety consultancy & legal based in Daventry.
Few other abseiling operations in the UK have such an
excellent safety record as Peak Activities who have operated
in the Peak District full time 52 weeks per year for 29 years
under Safe Operating Procedures and staff codes of safety set out by
our senior safety directors Dr. Iain Jennings and resident safety advisors
such as Steve Pope. There has been only one claim on our company's
insurance in all that time - which was proven in court to be a totally
fraudulent, vexatious claim for an alleged injury which did not
happen whilst the lady involved was out was us. She'd been having
treatment for her alleged neck injury it several weeks before her
                   arrival here !

Peak Activities Ltd. will take great care to make sure your trip is as
safe as it can be, using national governing body qualified instructors
with many years experience, using modern up to date & safe equipment.

We reckon that every hour spent abseiling with us is
much safer than travelling around in a car or on a train.

Our base in the accessible Peak National Park has a long and successful track record in assisting charities to generate PR and funds. Examples of some productive and enjoyable and successful charity & publicity events include sponsored abseiling sessions, sponsored caving events, sponsored climbing days, and major inter-company and intra-company team challenges and problem -solving competitions. Some events we have helped to design and run over the past twenty years or so have involved over a hundred people at a time raising tens of thousands of pounds for charity each - whilst some more modest events - no less important in our opinion have just raised a few thousands in a single day involving just six to ten people. Charities we have supported in a big way in the past include the Imperial Cancer Research Fund, WWF, the British Diabetic Association, BBC Children in Need, the National Deaf Blind League, the Scout Association, & many others. Getting to the Peak District from all over the UK is really easy !
As a rule of thumb we try to help raise a minimum of at least five times than the actual costs of running the event for their supporters, so prospective fund raisers need to be thinking about raising at least four or five hundred pounds per person abseiling, caving, etc. with us.
As a small family owned business sometimes struggling to pay our soaring insurance premiums we regret that Peak Activities Ltd is NOT in a position to offer our services free of charge - especially as insurance cover for such events is now so very expensive for us to put in place. However, we try to look favourably upon national charities and their supporters who ask us to help them and will always try to offer our best possible rates to groups officially supporting worthy causes. Our own pet charities are listed below and we are always delighted to help any groups of people wishing to raise money for one or more of those very good causes. Concessionary rates are usually made available to registered charities if booked well ahead of time and in accordance with our booking procedures. Our only proviso is that in exchange for substantial discounts we just ask that any such events should be planned and booked with us well in advance so we can fit them in around our other work commitments. We will also make a charge to cover some of the time involved if there is a substantial amount of work needed to plan and set up and manage large fund raising events. DO WE WORK WITH INDIVIDUAL FUND RAISERS ? Normally our services are cost effective for groups but may not be feasible & cost effective for individuals unless they are realistically looking at achieving a considerable amount of sponsorship... ....for example a target of over a thousand pounds for their charity at any one time. Usually we work with people employed by charities as fund raisers to plan events with them that their charity can open up to individuals & promote through the charity's own web site and PR mails shots etc. All events we run from Rock Lea meet our very high standards - and as well as considering the ways and means of making the best possible use of your time with us... such as providing press and publicity materials.... we will also be involved in making sure your event is safe and has a minimal impact on the local environment to make sure your charity's reputation and image is protected and enhanced. Sadly some outdoor challenges organised by other firms in the Peak Park have sometime caused problems to other users and land owners..and we are very keen that anything involving our brand name is respectable, very well organised and environmentally friendly ! In many cases, your event may be run on land which is owned by one of our company's stakeholders. If your event involves lots of people, there is a lot to be said in letting us handle all the arrangements such as catering and to avoid access problems. We can even arrange transoport here using coaches and accommodation for those staying locally overnight.

...nice and easy for mixed ability participants !

Examples of some of our easy-to-arrange sponsored events include : -
Sponsored Teddy Bear 's Abseiling Sessions
( All the abseiling Teddy bears come free ! )
 Inter-team Orienteering & Trailquest Challenges
Inter-team Treasure Hunts on Mountain Bikes or on foot.

...and for those wanting something a bit more extreme !
                               River Deep Mountain High !

Sponsored trips in complete safety down England's Deepest Cave.
Nordic Walking / Hikers' High Level Expedition
A crossing of the huge Kinder Scout Plateau.
                  2-Day Top Team Challenge.
...100 foot free fall abseiling over a fast flowing river!

Climbing Mt Everest (29,028 feet ) in a single day !

As published in the "Sheffield Star" & "Peakland Post"
involving staff from henry fanshawe School, Dronfield.
Rock climb over 29,000 feet of rock in a single weekend.
....the ultimate team challenge which will be really newsworthy !
Forget Nepal ! This is the only scent of Mount Everest to be held
entirely within Deryshire ! Oxygen included !

We noticed a while ago another firm is claiming the credit for inventing
this event. Ask them to show you the press cutings from 1980 and we'll
eat our words ! ( The Star & PP photographs are all here by the way ! )

Sometimes individuals or groups wanting to undertake a
team building project - or companies looking around for
a worthwhile good cause - will ask Peak Activities to suggest
charities they might help to support. Some of our favourite
registered charities ( which we know from experience are
very easy to work with ) are listed below....they vary from
local good causes such as SARDA and the Derbyshire Cave
Rescue and AIr Ambulance Services to global charities such
as UNICEF, Oxfam and Medicins Sans Frontieres. Popular
favorites are the RNLI and RSPCA and national charities
fighting against illnesses and disability.

We will be particularly pleased to discount our fees to help
you support the raising of funds and publicity for one or
more of the following registered charities listed below.
All the ones we've suggested below do great work in our
opinion and have been nominated and approved by our team
of staff and our directors for our special support this year and
next year...
