This year we've been running safe, fun packed outdoor activities
for individuals from our base in the Peak Park most weekends for
no less than 25 years. Still being here after so many happy years
says much about our excellent people, products and services.

"open" events running in the Peak District National Park. These include our popular activity
weekends, 1-day experiences & midweek events. Many people come on their own or bring
along a friend or partner. All these fixtures are "open" to individuals, couples & small groups
agedover 16. No special equipment nor special level of fitness is needed. More dates may be
added once the dates we've listed below are full, so please bookmark the page for updates.

All of our beginners open events are ideal for complete first-timers like Ian Wright. We will supply
everything you need - wellingtons, caver suits, hard hats, miners' lamps, harnesses and of course first
class friendly and very expert caving instructors ! Expect to make new friends when you join a lively
crowd of between 6 and 20 people on each of these social, action-filled events. If you want to come
here on your own that's problem at all ! You'll soon be one of a lively group and there are lots of

first timers & novices.
Our safe & enjoyable beginners
CAVING WEEKENDS, EASY CAVING DAYS and MIDWEEK CAVING MINIBREAKS
are designed to be easy, fun, social experiences with a difference
for people aged 16+ who have not been out caving
before. However, being run by our very enthusiastic & experienced
staff they may also of great interest
to people who have caved before who are not totally confident
to go off caving alone and who want to do some challenging trips
and explore interesting caves in Derbyshire under the aegis of
our safe, friendly fully qualified caving
instructors. These top quality events have been featured
in the Sunday Times Travel Magazine
and several times on BBC television.
Choose from a wide range of
dates all year round ( see dates & prices are listed below).
No special fitness or gear is
needed to enjoy our beginners open caving events. We provide
special waterproof caving suits and hard hats, harnesses &
lamps, and also supply a colourful array of welly boots ! There
are no hidden costs.
If you are aged between 18 and
80 you'll be welcome to join our open "Friendly Face"
Caving Experiences. We can also arrange for accompanied under
16's to join these events if they are with a participating adult
over 21.
Come for a single day or a whole
weekend - we also offer single days and two-day minibreaks midweek
sometimes ( see list of dates below). Now and again we also run
4-day events which are mini caving holidays ! Expect to join
a lively bunch of people with a jolly house-party atmosphere.
Just bring along some old clothes and a sense of humour ! You
may be surprised at what you can achieve in just a short time.
If you book a weekend or a two
day break you'll socialise and explore three or four different
cave systems over two action filled days
under the ground with our very safe and experienced
caving & potholing instructors.
Please note the fee includes
all equipment hire, the services of our experienced cave leaders,
cave entrance fees, and transport by our minibus/es from our
base in Hathersage up to the local cave sites. The fees also
include £5 million
Public and Third Party Insurance Cover
specifically for caving and potholing activities. Our fees do
not include local accommodation and food. We usually help people
find accommodation nearby in local youth hostels, inns,
hotels and guest houses. Our customers often take advantage
of the special discounted rates we have negotiated with tried
and proved hotels and inns. The Millstone Inn and the Kenwood
Hall are popular bases for our caving customers, for example,
but you can camp in Hathersage too for just a few pounds per
night if your budget is tight. Normally we take lunch in a cafe
or an inn near to the caves we're visiting, so you'll need some
cash with you during the day. That's all !
Caving sessions usually meet
up each day at our base Rock Lea at
9-15 am and end around 5-00 pm on the Saturday and around 2-30
to 4-00 pm on Sunday, the second day. One of the advantages of
our base is that you can your valuables safe under lock and key
and leave your car here whilst we minibus you up to the lonely,
remote caving sites.
If you want a shower at Rock
Lea after your session - just arrange to use one of our shower
rooms. We can provide towels. Group sizes on easy caving events
vary from as few as 2 to as many as 12 people. Staff : pupil
ratio is typically 1:7 or better.

All of the beginners caving event dates
below are suitable for complete first timers as well as enthusiastic
beginners. You're welcome whether you come alone or if you bring
along your partner or friends. No prior experience, no special
fitness and no special equipment is needed.

PRIVATE TUITION & PRIVATE LESSONS : CHOOSE THE DATES THAT SUIT YOU BEST !
If you want PRIVATE CAVING OR POTHOLING INSTRUCTION for an individual or a small party rather than joining a public,
open event, then our separate private tuition & cave guiding service for complete novices & beginners is also available for
most midweek dates & weekends. We usually operate this service inDerbyshire using caves we know very well indeed.
Guiding is staff intensive and is therefore more expensive than joining an open fixture. People wanting to arrange private group
instruction ( e.g. hen groups and stag parties) should please ring 01433-650345 and ask for details of group discounts & offers.

YOUR NEXT SAFE STEPS WITH US UNDERGROUND...
Once you have been caving a few times as a beginner you may wish to try something a
little more daring and challenging with us, such as our open potholing courses involving the
use of special caving electron ladders ( see above image ) and lifelines and SRT techniques
such as abseiling and jumaring in and out of potholes with steep drops and waterfalls, etc.
We also run mines exploration experiences - which are led by our most experienced
underground leaders, including Steve Pope who used to be one of HM's Mines Inspectors.

These are social events for anyone

social weekend of walking in & around

that life's not a rehearsal and you'd like to get out more, enjoy
life and meet up with more like-minded people in a nice relaxed
atmosphere, then our "Friendly Face" Walking Weekends
may be just for you !
These quality friendly
face weekends enable people to broaden their horizons and explore
some of the more remote parts of the Peak District - such as
the lovely trackless & remote moorlands and craggy "edges"
of Kinder Scout
and Bleaklow.
All these events start
at 9-30 am on Saturdays and they end c. 3-00 pm each day. The
pace will be easy and there will be ample opportunities for taking
photographs and chatting with your new friends. We'll be stopping
at local inns for relaxing lunches & a lemonade !

FOLLOW UP CAVING EVENTS IN DERBYSHIRE'S PEAK DISTRICT
Below are details of our mid-week caving days, caving weekends, midweek breaks
designed to be "follow up" events for people who have done some caving with us already...
The Speleo 2 series of events is not suitable for complete first timers, but if you've done
some serious caving already, ( such as one of our beginners events ) you'll be fine.

Speleo 2 is
our unique "follow up" cave & potholing experiences
for caving enthusiasts. This range of events includes midweek
days & weekend events designed & run by our keen caving
enthusiasts !
"FANTASTIC VALUE" - The Sunday Times
CAVING &
POTHOLING DAYS, WEEKENDS & MIDWEEK BREAKS ideal for Novice
Cavers & those with some prior experiences of caving.
These events based in the Peak District are tried and tested
and are the perfect follow up for people who have already enjoyed
caving with us before or who have done some caving & potholing
elsewhere.
These fun follow up
events are a great introduction to the vertical world of potholing
which requires the safe use of abseiling ropes, electron caving
ladders, lifelines and other technical aids to moving quickly
and safely on tougher sections of cave deep underground. They
also effectively introduce our guests to moving safely through
some tighter passages and crawls than we would normally take
complete first timers into !
Very unfit people may
struggle climbing the ladders but we doubt anybody who is keen
to come will be
a couch potato ! This is an event that's designed by
really keen cavers working at Rock Lea for those of
our customers who really want to get to grips with some more
advanced caving experiences and skills.

OUT IN THE MID WEEK...
Single days
in the midweek offer clients a low cost exciting experience for
people who can't always get away for our SPELEO 2 weekend caving
experiences.
( Our weekend experiences are described in the section below
)
Midweek events
start at 10-00 am at Rock Lea & end at
c. 4-00 pm. Hot showers and changing facilities are available
for our guests...better than shivering changing behind some van
in the middle of nowhere !
We will provide
everything you need in terms of caving suits, wellies, hard hats,
and lights and harnesses. If you
have brought along items of your own kit you are OK to use it
- subject to our staff checking that it is safe and suitable.

Mid Week Breaks Weekends offer clients a low cost exciting opportunity
to explore new caves and develop more skills and technical experience
in tighter caves and caverns with vertical pitches which need
to be climbed using caving ladders. SPELEO 2 Weekends are suitable
for novices but may not be suitabnle for complete first time
beginners.
We reserve
the right to cancel/postpone events and refund in full if there
are less than 3 people booked
onto any specific day. Discounts are possible for
group bookings and NUS card holders. Call us too
if you have a party (e.g. a stag group or works social ) and
want to arrange additional dates. We prefer to run stag &
hen party trips separate from the other trips we run for groups
from the public.

( right ) has been taking groups underground for us for over
30 years and he has a wealth of experience caving in the UK and
in Europe.
When he's
not underground Tony is a senior Finance Manager at De Montfort
University.
Tony has served as a committee member of the NCA - the national
governing body for caving & potholing in the UK. A Fellow
of the Royal Geographical Society, Tony is one of our most experienced
caving & potholing experts and has taught thousands of people
to enjoy caving & potholing working with us over the past
30 years.

This fun weekend
is designed to teach participants the basics of RIGGING
and BELAYING and other essential skills such as route
finding needed to go on & start potholing more safely under
your own steam.
It is not a classroom based course
- we feel you will learn much more discussing real situations
& rigging
& route finding issues underground.
Speleo
3 is a two day training event run by members of our senior staff.
It comprises practical training in small groups visiting two
or three potholes in the Casteton region. They are designed for
people who have caved before who are keen to take up the sport
of caving and potholing at club level - or who may wish to become
instructors in due course. These experiences offer some slightly
harder trips involving abseiling & climbing on slender electron
caving ladders and are a suitable for folks who have attended
our first timers courses or our SPELEO 2 courses or who have
caved before extensively elsewhere. It is definitely NOT suitable
for novices.

GIANTS' ROUND TRIP"

Vertical Caving is called
Potholing !
This is an extreme potholing experience.
This unique potholing experience with Peak Activities is recognised
nationally as one of the toughest 1-day caving and potholing
trips on offer to the general public here in Derbyshire and anywhere
else in Great Britain. Come on your own and join a small party
of fellow cavers- or perhaps come with your friends and share
the adventure caving experience of a lifetime !
This caving experience involves abseiling & climbing back
up vertical ladder climbs in a small intimate group. You'll be
using slender flexible electron caving ladders to negotiate big
waterfalls and steep rock pitches. Expect some long tightish
muddy crawls too !
You'll be working in a
small intimate group with a very experienced professional caving
leader looking after you every step of the way. The price reflects
the very exclusive nature of these unique small group caving
experiences.

WHAT TO BRING ALONG :
We can provide
waterproof suits, wellies,
hard safety hats, safety cap lamps, reserve
lighting, harnesses etc. for no extra costs.
However, you may wish to use your own gear.
Our staff will just want to check it first to be
on the safe side.
This is a long, taxing trip, so therefore
warm furry fleeces are essential !
Gloves and knee pads are very useful.
Wet suits & wet socks and taking along
snacks & high energy foods are advisable.
This is the only trip where we eat underground.
It is such a long and strenuous trip you'll be
pleased to stop for a rest and something to eat.
Bring along lots of extra Mars Bars !
Please note that
if underground water levels
are unusually higher than usual it may be
necessary to adjust the routes we use
underground for safety. We will try to include
the promised "Round Trip" but reserve the right
to avoid unecessary risks on the day. These are
fairly extreme trips and are NOT suitable for the
faint hearted and are not really suitable for first
timers or novice cavers with limited fitness or
skills.

ROCK CLIMBING WEEKENDS IN THE PEAK PARK.
Join a sociable group
of fellow rock climbing
enthusiasts for a relaxing weekend with a mix of easy and intermediate
grade climbs - all under the safe supervision of our NGB (BMC)
qualified mountaineering & rock climbing instructors.
This is one of
our follow-up events and it is not suitable for total
beginners. This event starts 8-55 am on Saturday at Rock
Lea. Ends

This climbing weekend will suit people who have climbed indoors
on walls but who have not done much on real outdoor rock.
