We are based where the lush green
dales of the White Peak's limestone
scenery meet the wild and craggy
heather moorlands & edges on the
rugged Dark Peak's Millstone Grit.

The charming, unspoiled stone-built
village of Hathersage nestles a short
walk beneath several world famous
rock-climbing crags such as Stanage Edge,
Gritstone Edge, Burbage & Bamford Edge
and Froggatt Edge... a mecca for climbers
from all over Europe.

The village has dozens of excellent upland and lowland walks
starting right on the doorstep - and enjoys a reputation for
being an ideal base for walkers, ramblers and a host of outdoor
pursuits such as climbing, abseiling, caving, gliding, orienteering,
potholing, & mountain biking. Close by is the start of the famous
Pennine Way in the stunning valley of Edale & Ladybower Reservoir
& the Derwent Dams are just a short walk from our base too...some
favourite splace for cycle treasure hunts and trailquests.
Peak Activities offers tailored events for groups and also runs
regular weekend breaks in Hathersage for individuals & couples.

Peak Activities Ltd's safe outdoor instruction services in the UK
now cover over 30 different outdoor sports and outdoors activities.
In the Austrian Alps we now offer more adventurous activities
including skiing, snow-shoe walking, ice climbing & snowboarding.

Looking across to Lose Hill from the side of Win Hill.
The surrounding Hope Valley forms a Pandora's box of outdoor delights
that is (hard though it is to believe) just one hours drive away from the
homes and work places of 18 million people . No wonder the
Peak District is the world's second-most-visited National Park
...and is now a "must visit" place for discerning outdoors enthusiasts.
Hathersage is increasingly becoming a very popular venue for team
building outdoor training events...possibly because this incredibly lovely
scenery is so accessible compared with other mountain areas.

Why spend hours driving to get away from it all when the accessible
Hope Valley offers a host of off-the-beaten track options within easy
reach of most parts of the United Kingdom ?

Peak Activities is based at Rock Lea Activity Centre which is
located in the very centre of Hathersage (Heather's Edge) in the
heart of the fabulous Peak District National Park. Set out below
are some notes on Hathersage and the surrounding area. Within
a one mile radius of the village centre there are no less than eight
pubs, several smart hotels, dozens of guest-houses (known as B&B's
locally) and a good choice of youth hostels, camp sites, camping
barns and several well appointed conference & training centres.

Whether you are coming by yourself or with a group of people,
there are loads of things to do and lots of places for you to stay
overnight and enjoy eating out...with options to suit most budgets
and every mood.

GETTING HERE ....

The village of Hathersage lies in the wonderful Hope Valley
which is in the heart of the beautiful Peak National Park
on the junction of the A6187 (formerly the A625) and
the B6001 c. 10 miles West of Sheffield. There are
very good road links to the M1 to the East ( junction 29 to
London and the South is just 16 miles away) and the
M6 in the West. Service buses link the village to
Sheffield and nearby market towns such as Bakewell.

Hathersage has a modest railway station which lies on
the main line between Sheffield to the east and Manchester
over in the West. The scenic mountain and moorland views
seen from the train coming into Hathersage from either
direction are superb. Trains from Sheffield and Manchester
are frequent and stop regularly here. Sheffield is a major
communications hub with a main line railway station, an
adjacent bus interchange and a recently opened local airport.
Manchester Ringway airport and East Midlands airport are
both within 30/40 minutes drive of the centre of Hathersage.

ATTRACTIONS IN THE VILLAGE & NEARBY

The village of Hathersage is small but lively. It enjoys many attractions rare for
a small village, including a public fully heated open air swimming pool (open Easter
to September) . There are also numerous tourist shops, lots of coaching inns and
small hotels, and several excellent places to eat including an Indian Balti restaurant,
cafes, & restaurants. The village also has a post office, chemist, banks, gift shops,
off-license/grocery, outdoor equipment specialist store, butcher, garden centre, etc.

The village's night life revolves around the many local pubs, some of which offer
pool, live music, dances, discos, quiz-nights, darts, pool & unusual sessions of bingo !
For those with more exotic preferences the modern city of Sheffield is just a short
taxi ride, bus journey or train ride away. Sheffield offers late night shopping at the
huge Meadowhall shopping mall, cine-complexes, a dry skiing slope, hundreds of
bars, loads of cinemas, discos and night clubs. There is also ice-skating, ten pin
bowling & several indoor rock climbing venues for those with excess energy to burn !
( After a busy day with our tutors you might only have enough energy left to go just
across the road into the Little John pub ! ).

Arguably, some of the UK's best climbing and outdoor pursuits enthusiasts shops
including Outside and Hitch 'N' Hike are located here..one in the village and one
on the outskirts....so the village is a mecca for gear freaks with a yearning for buying
all the latest accessories and life's non-essentials ! We offer all our clients
discount vouchers valid for both shops, so you can save a fortune by spending
all your money there !
