Summer & Winter Hillcraft Skills Training & Lectures...

 

Some of Peak Activities Sports Division's senior
MIC and MIA qualified instructing staff have many
years experience instructing hillcraft & winter
mountaineering skills and cross country skiing
in the UK, the Alps and the Arctic. They are available
for hire as walking guides and mountain leaders
with £5 million Public and Third Party Liability
Insurance Cover.

We and our fully qualified sub-contractors in the Alps
also offer groups short courses and fun-filled residentials
all year round in the Peak District & elsewhere
( including our base in the lovely mountains of Austria )
involving Hillcraft and Mountain Safety Skills and
Outdoor First Aid Skills. We are always keen to hear
from groups with specific hillcraft skills training,
mountaineering skills training or camping and
survival skills instruction requirements.

 

Adventure Racing combines a variety of the
adventure sports on offer at Rock Lea - including
orienteering by day and night - and mountain
biking, abseiling, canoeing / kayaking caving
and high level mountain trekking. Group event
organisers who use our expertise to tailor events
will benefit greatly from our considerable past

for our Hillcraft training programmes.

Rock Lea Activity Centre holds a government AALA quality
assurance & safety licence, so we can look after under -18's
in the remote mountains in summer and winter. All of our
training activities are fully insured.

 

All of our instructors are experienced fully qualified first aiders.

We have experienced snow & ice climbing tutors and rescue & survival

tutors with many years of skills training in the Arctic and Alps. In addition,

we can offer groups tuition in mountain first aid and wilderness first aid

in the Peak District and at our new base in Ellmau in the Austrian Tirol.

In the Alps we employ people with the highest possible Bergfuhrer and

Guide qualifications.

first aid and mountain rescue skills too- as well as our very popular

abseiling, rock climbing and scrambling courses.

Whether you want to learn GPS navigation skills or simpler

basic mountain navigation and elementary mountain safety

skills... we'll be pleased to hear from you.

 

We are always very pleased to hear from group organisers who

may want a course tailoring for their school, youth group or club.

 

 

 

 

For example, when the "Backpackers Club" wanted a course

in the Peak District on navigation and winter skills tailored

around the needs of their members, we were the first people

they contacted. Their event included navigation training and

first aid and was v. successful. Many other organisations use

us for tailoring events combining hillcraft skills training with

first-aid training for their groups.

 

 

 

B.S.E.S. group training in the use of ice axe and crampons

in the Cairngorms prior to a BSES glacier expedition to Arctic

Norway with Iain Jennings in 1974 when iain was the Chief
Glaciologisty and the Safety Officer for groups working on
the Nevertindsbreen Glacier.

Iain is a qualified glaciologist and geologist with over three
decades of experience of leading expeditions on glaciers in
Iceland, Norway and Sweden & the Alps.
